History
Starting in April 2010, Blue Head Sextet is another Jazz/Hard Bop project by famous Jazz musicians such as pianist Xia Jia, Drumer Beibei, Trompet player Wen Zhiyong and bass player Zhang Ke, who all have been presentative activists in the Beijing jazz scene for years and start out this new band together with some new sprouts of Chinese Jazz. Since they all are fans of the socalled traditional Jazz, they want to tryout new possibilities to combine traditional and modern Jazz approaches with new instrumental sets.
When they began, they started by imitating the 50s and 60s Hard Bop movement, in the style of people like Horace Silver, Benny Golson, Dexter Gordon, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, John Coltrane and more. As they progressed and became more experienced, they developed their own style and flavor of music and have been tweaking it ever since.
They often perform in the small yard venue Jianghu Bar.
