Jazz Vocalist Bei Xu has been performing in New York City area for the past few years. She is known for her sultry, rich voice as well as her very personal way of delivery lyrics. When she sings, audience feels she is really having a conversation with them and will be led into her world by her sweet, warm voice. Bei is inspired by jazz vocalists like Dianne Reeves, Carmen McRae. She focuses on singing jazz standards, specializes in putting an unique spin on traditional Chinese songs from chord changes, rhythm and feels of jazz. Bei has a vision of bringing this wonderful American music culture to china and to inspire a lot of other young Chinese artists.

Bei moved to United States 10 years ago through a foreign exchange student program. Before that, she has been singing in school chores as a leader sing since 7 years of age. After moving to the states, Bei attended Indiana University. She continued studying voice and piano. After graduating from IU, Bei moved to New York City and was immediately drawn by music of Jazz. She started studying with jazz pianist Charles Sibirsky, who has been teaching jazz for the last 30 years as well as performing in the New York area. She also studies vocal with Gorge Axiltree, who is known for his effective way of teaching voice production. Bei became part of the New York jazz scene and enjoys singing, enjoys making her audience feel good about her music, her jazz.

Bei had a jazz concert with the local band from ChongQing when she went back to her home town to visit this July. Audience was blown away by her wonderful performance and impressed by how deep, smoky her voice sounds, how different she delivers the tunes and how passionate she seems on the stage. She was quoted by the Xin Nu newspaper in Chongqing that “She is probably the first Chinese girl who sings Jazz in New York City”.

Bei considers jazz part of her life. She wants to bring listeners her emotions, her experience and her soul. Music makes people feel and that’s what Bei wants to do in her life as an artist.

徐蓓是一个低调却又华丽的爵士女声，一个拥有绝美声息和高贵气质的创作才女，她极度美感的声线和时尚的外表出神地表达了后雅皮爵士风，作为第一个在国际上发行爵士唱片的中国人，并以低调而华丽的爵士唱腔迅速走红日本的重庆女孩，首次在国内发行了同名爵士专辑《徐蓓》。此前，徐蓓曾在日本发过3张专辑，其中第二张爵士乐唱片《LostInTranslation》推出的首周，销量就排上了日本专业唱片销量榜 Oricon的第二名。去年4月，徐蓓还在东京连续做了4场大型爵士演唱会，引领了一场风靡日本的爵士狂潮，同时她也成为了华人爵士乐的代表性人物。
